One name, two vehicles

If you meant the ProMaster City, you are in the wrong place.

They share a name and almost nothing else. The City is a compact delivery van. The ProMaster is a full-size cargo van you can stand up in. This site is about the second one.

Why this page exists: people searching for one of these keep landing on pages about the other. This is the shortest way to work out which van you actually want.

The short version
#

The Ram ProMaster City was a compact van sold in North America from 2015 to 2022. It was a rebadged Fiat Doblò, aimed at urban delivery and small trades. Ram discontinued it after the 2022 model year.

The Ram ProMaster is the full-size van. Different platform, different size class, still in production. The high-roof version is the one people convert into campers, because you can stand upright inside it.

If you are researching a camper conversion and you can stand up in the pictures you have been looking at, you are looking at the full-size ProMaster.

Which one am I qualified to talk about?
#

Only one of them.

I have owned a 2017 ProMaster 2500 high roof since 2018. We bought it used at 30,000 miles and it now reads 130,039. It has been our full-time home that entire time, through two major repairs including an engine replacement at 98,000 miles.

I have never owned a ProMaster City. I have not driven one, lived in one, or fixed one, so there is no reliability verdict on it here and I am not going to invent one. Everything above about the City comes from published sources, not from my driveway.

If you want the City’s reliability record, the honest answer is that you need an owner of that van, not an owner of this one.

What I can tell you
#

If it is the full-size ProMaster you are weighing up, that I can help with, because it is the only van I have run:

If it is the full-size one you are outfitting

The gear below has been on ours for years, which is the only reason it is here:

One thing worth knowing if you are searching in 2026
#

The ProMaster City name is coming back. Reporting indicates a new version arriving for the 2027 model year, based on the Citroën Jumpy / Fiat Scudo rather than the old Doblò.

That matters for a specific reason: a 2027 ProMaster City will not be the same vehicle as a 2015 to 2022 ProMaster City. Different platform entirely. Any reliability record you read about the old one tells you very little about the new one, and search results will mix the two freely for a while.
